Paper Moon

CANVAS MURAL WITH METAL LEAF ACCENTS, FOAM MOON AND CLOUDS

___

Paper moon backdrops were popular among tourists, partygoers and carnival patrons in the late 18th and early 19th century. People would send their whimsical pictures as postcards back to loved ones.

This 9.5 foot mural was made for a wedding photo backdrop. The painted canvas background had faux gold and silver leafed cloud and star details. Three colours of LED string lights peeked through the canvas mimicking stars in different temperatures. The clouds and moon were carved from foam.

Pictures of early 19th century paper moon portraits, English theatre sets and Georges Melies’ “A Trip to the Moon” were referenced for stylistic inspiration.
