JOINT COMPOUND AND APOXIE SCULPT

This four-foot bas-relief camellia was modelled after the client’s favourite Chanel camellia brooch, which had clean symmetrical petals cushioning a softly opening bud.

Because of the scale and smooth petals, the camellia was sculpted with joint compound directly onto the clients’ wall. The nine petals were gradually hand sanded and chiselled. The bud, the more organic detail of the sculpture, was prepared in the studio. Each stamen was sculpted by hand and arranged in clusters within the bud.
